I have the honour to inform you that Mr.E.M.Hezoland, Assistant Engineer in the Public Works Department has resigned his appointment in order, I undersband, to engage in private prectice as an Engineer, and to report that, I have provision lly appointed. Mr.I.M.Xavier, Land Surveyor, to the vecency on a sclery of

$1,800 rising to 2,400 per annum es sanebianod in your despatch

No. 280 of the 8th. of December, 1899.

Mr. Xavier was appointed. Acsistent Engineer on the

permanent establishment of the Public Works Depement in accord-

ance with peragraph 4 of the Marquis of Ripon's despetch No.268

q2 of thir 26th. November 1892, an appointment which he held till h

was promoted to be Land Surveyor und r ruthority of your despatch

No.214 of 1898, and is reported by the Director of Public Works

to be a very efficient officer.

2. I have further provisionally appointed Mr. F.Jacob,

whose appointment as draughtsman on & relary of $1,080 for anum

was notified in despatch No. 104 of the 27th. of April 1899 an

approved by Sir I Wingfield's despatch No. 157 of the 25th. of

July 1899, to be Land Surveyor on z salary of $1,500 rising by

1899,

an increment after 3 years to $1,800 per annum.

Mr.Jacob has been lately employed on Surveying work end
